Trailers reaction

Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker

By Alexandra

The trailer is a medley of nostalgia, heartache and reminiscence, as it blends scenes from the whole saga.

After a controversial Episode VIII (read our review here), it is clear that Disney is banking on feelings to conquer audiences.

Apart from old material, we see Rey (Daisy Ridley) with a double-ended red lightsaber reminiscent of Darth Maul's, and an evil C-3PO. The Resistance is once again fighting to defeat evil, and the suspense continues- who is Rey, why is 3PO evil, is it a dream?

American Horror Story: 1984

By Christiana

Jazzercise instructor Xavier (Cody Fern) brings his friends with him at Camp Redwood only to discover that summer camps were never so terrifying before.

In the ninth instalment of their acclaimed TV show, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk reimagine chilling stories set around campfire, involving serial killers as the ones from the 1980s classics.

The latest season of the iconic anthology series is entitled '1984' and will premiere on FX on September 18th. The cast includes Emma Roberts as Brooke, Billie Lourd, Matthew Morrison (Glee), Leslie Grossman, Angelica Ross (Pose) and Gus Kenworthy.

Lucy in the Sky

By Alexandra

Natalie Portman plays Lucy Cola, in this emotional drama. Lucy is mesmerized by space and yearns to go back "up there", since life on Earth now seems so insignificant.

The film is directed by Noah Hawley, who also contributed to the screenplay, and the plot is loosely inspired from astronaut Lisa Novak's story and her involvement with colleague William Oefelein (in the film, Lucy begins an affair with a colleague and spirals out of control when it doesn't work out).

Dickinson

By Christiana

A comedic approach to the private life of American poet Emily Dickinson.

Known for her unusual way of living and self-imposed social seclusion, Dickinson wrote many impressive poems reflecting on death and immortality.

Hailee Steinfeld will portray the famous writer in Apple TV+' original series which is in pre-production for now. Anna Baryshnikov, Ella Hunt, Adrian Enscoe, Toby Huss and Jane Krakowski complete the cast.

Briarpatch

By Alexandra

Briar-patch (literally). A dense thicket of thorny plants; ground made impassible by the impenetrable overgrowth of prickly vegetation" (Oxford dictionaries). Boy, Allegra Dill (Rosario Dawson) is in a thorny and impenetrable situation when she returns to Briar Patch to find out who killed her sister.

Duplicitous characters, zebras escaped from the zoo, and a modern psychedelic cowboy vibe. Bring it on!

The King

By Alexandra

Inspired from Shakespeare's plays "Henry IV" and "Henry V", "The King" tells the story of Prince Hal (Timothée Chalamet), who unwillingly becomes king after his brother's death.

Chalamet is joined by Robert Pattinson and Lily-Rose Depp, among others. The trailer looks golden and it seems that Netflix might be aiming for some Academy Awards

The Laundromat

By Alexandra

Ellen Martin (Meryl Streep) takes on shady lawyers Jürgen Mossack (Gary Oldman) and Ramón Fonseca (Antonio Banderas) trying to topple an off-shore tax scheme benefitting the world's richest.

Based on the Panama papers investigation, this comedic drama looks explosive, entertaining and...educational. The film will have a short cinema run before being released on Netflix on 18 October.

Joker

By Christiana

Witness the prince of crime as he returns to the silver screen this October.

Joaquin Phoenix and film director Todd Phillips (known for directing and producing 'The Hangover' trilogy) promise to amaze us in every way possible with their film.

Set in 1981 and following the origin story of the most notorious comic book villain in history, 'Joker' takes us through pain and grief, gradually sliding into insanity.

Looking forward to Phoenix' portrayal after the golden reactions received at the Venice Film Festival. That eight-minute standing ovation got me so excited. Let's see if this one truly puts a smile on our faces

The Aeronauts

By Christiana

Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones will take you beyond the stars in the first trailer for 'The Aeronauts'. The two actors have previously worked together on 2014's `The Theory of Everything` which earned Redmayne and Jones an Academy Award for Best Leading Actor and an Oscar nomination for Leading Actress.

As temperature drops, intensity rises and Amelia Wren and James Glaisher's lives are more and more at risk. Tom Harper and Jack Thorne create what can already be considered (by the looks of it) an exceptional screenplay about the true events that led a pilot and a meteorologist to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

It is only a matter of time until their grandiose expedition becomes the ultimate battle for survival. Join them this December in film theatres.

Tall Girl

By Christiana

Jodi (Ava Michelle) is the tallest girl in her school and this has never been an advantage for her. She has always felt uncomfortable in her own skin… until now.

After several years of being joked about and left out, with the moral support of her best friend, Fareeda (Anjelica Washington) and her older sister (Sabrina Carpenter) she finally finds the confidence and the courage to stand up for herself.

The trailer looked kind of cliché and ended up giving away the entire plot, but who knows… some of you might want to give it a try. The film arrives on Netflix on the 13th of September.

Terminator: Dark Fate

By Alexandra

The Terminator saga continues with the 6th installment. Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and a human-cyborg hybrid (Mackenzie Davis) are fighting to protect Dani (Natalia Reyes), a young human girl. They are joined by the original Terminator model, T-800 101 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) in this story which is not meant to conclude the saga, according to co-producer and franchise creator James Cameron, but rather to spin off a new trilogy.

The trailer gives away the whole plot, but that doesn't mean it's less exciting to welcome back our good ol' metal friend.
